What is a Custom SMTP Server?

A Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server handles the delivery of outgoing emails. By configuring a Custom SMTP server in Frontman, you can leverage your own email provider's infrastructure for sending emails, removing restrictions associated with third-party services.

How to Connect Gmail for SMTP

First, set up POP in Gmail

1. On your computer, open Gmail.

2. In the top right, click Settings See all settings.
3. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.

4. In the "POP download" section, select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.

5. At the bottom of the page, click Save Changes.

6. Enable two-step verification on your Gmail account.

7. Create an app password.

8. Use the SMTP server address smtp.gmail.com, port 465, SSL/TLS for your username and password, enter the email address you want to send the email from and the recipient email address.

Additional Tips:

• Enable two-factor authentication for your Google account for better security.

• Consult your email client or application's documentation for specific instructions on configuring SMTP settings.

Setting Up Custom SMTP

1. Enable Custom SMTP: Within Frontman's settings, locate the "Custom SMTP" option and activate it.

2. Provide Server Credentials: Enter the following details for your email provider's SMTP server:

   • Sender Name: The name displayed as the sender in recipient inboxes.

     
   • Preview Text: A short snippet displayed alongside the email subject line in previews. (e.g., "You have a new message")

     
   • Mail From: The email address used to send emails from Frontman.

     
   • Server: The hostname or IP address of your email provider's SMTP server.

     
   • Login: The username for your email account.

     
   • Password: The password for your email account.

   • Port: The port number used by your email provider's SMTP server (typically 465).

   

3. Test Your Configuration: Click "Send Test Mail" and enter a valid email address to receive a test email from Frontman. A successful test confirms your Custom SMTP setup is functional.
