# Create Template

This is where you can **create templates which can be used in promotional and notification** [**campaigns**](https://docs.makerobos.com/chatman-enterprise-whatsapp-platform/chatman-functions/campaign) **or to initiate** [**journeys**](https://docs.makerobos.com/chatman-enterprise-whatsapp-platform/chatman-functions/journeys)**.**

**Create Template** option is accessible from the **Active, Archive, or Template Library section**, available in the **Template Tab**.

Before we head on to how to create a template, it's best to know the **kind of templates** for better categorization during creation. Chatman allows three types of template creation:

1. [**Utility Template**](#utility-templates)
2. [**Authentication Template**](#authentication-templates)
3. [**Marketing Template**](#marketing-templates)

## Types of Templates

### **Utility Template**

These are **pre-designed messages in WhatsApp Business API that serve practical purposes**, like **sending order updates**, **shipping information**, or **transaction receipts**.

If a template has **both utility and marketing aspect**s, it is **categorized as marketing and utility**. For eg:

"Hi {{Customer Name}}! Your recent purchase of {{Product}} is on its way (utility), and guess what? As a token of appreciation, here's a special 10% discount on your next purchase! Just use code: THANKYOU10 (marketing).

### **Authentication Template**

These **templates are for verifying a user's identity or confirming an action**, often through a **one-time code** or **link sent** via chat.

### **Marketing Template**

Marketing templates are **messages tailored for promotional purposes**, helping businesses share **offers, product launches,** or **engaging content** with their customers.

All the templates that doesn't fall under utility and authentication are categorized as marketing template.

### Steps To Create A Template

1. Let's suppose you want to make a '**welcome back**' template for greeting users. To make it, you head over to the '**Template**' **tab** and **tap** '**Create Templates**' available under the **Active, Archive, or Library tab.**

2. Decide on what name you want to give to your template. The welcome template we're working on belongs specifically to those who visit again (not for first-time customers). So a relevant name could be '**welcome\_back**.'

It is **advisable** to **give a category name** along with a  specification (if applicable) for seamless future access.

3. Now you need to **select the category** for which you want to create the template. It is of three types: utility, authentication and marketing.

The template we're creating is a marketing content so we select marketing.

4. **Choose** **the** **language** from the drop-down and tap '**create a template**.'

Let's say we want to create the template in English. We simply search and select.

5. A page as displayed below will appear. &#x20;

* **On the left-hand side**, you can edit the previously added details like **template** **name**, **category**, and **language** and **get** **options f**or the **template** **header**.
* **In the middle**, the **body, foote**r and **buttons** for the **templates** to be **added**.
* **On the right-hand side**, you can see the **template preview** simultaneously as you make modifications.

6. Let's say you want to **add a header** for your '**welcome\_back**' template. On the **left-hand side**, you get a lot of header options. Choose the one that meets your needs.&#x20;

Here, we only need a text header with the message: **Welcome back {{name}}**!

* **Text**: Text header allows you to add text header to your template. Text can convey information, instructions, or messages to your audience.
* **Image**: This feature allows you to add images to your template, such as photos, icons, logos, etc. Images can illustrate concepts, show examples, or create interest for your audience. Supported file format (png, jpeg, webp)
* **Video**: This feature allows you to add videos to your template, such as clips, animations, recordings, etc. Videos can also be played, paused, muted, or looped to control the viewing experience. Supported file format (mp4, 3gpp)
* **Document**: This feature allows you to add documents to your template (only pdf files). Documents can provide detailed information, data, or analysis for your audience. Documents can also be downloaded or viewed by your audience.
* **Location**: This feature allows you to add locations to your template, such as maps, addresses, directions, etc. Locations can help your audience find your business, event, or destination.&#x20;
* **Catalog**: This feature allows you to add catalogs to your template, such as product lists, menus, portfolios, etc. Catalogs can display your offerings, prices, or features for your audience.&#x20;
* **Carousal**: This feature allows you to add carousels to your template, such as slideshows, galleries, testimonials, etc.  Carousels can also be scrolled, swiped, or clicked by your audience.
* **MPM**: This feature allows you to add multi-part messages to your template, such as quizzes, surveys, forms, etc. MPMs can collect feedback, input, or responses from your audience. MPMs can also be validated, scored, or submitted by your audience.

7. **Add variables** to your **header** in the middle tab for dynamics based on set attributes.&#x20;

You might want to call your customer with name for a personalized communication; this is how you can do that.&#x20;

Simply add {{ }} and in between what you want to fill, here we want name so our final header is : **Welcome back {{name}}** !

8. Add a **relevant body message**. You can **bold**, **italicize**, **strikethrough** and **monospace** the body text by **selecting the content** and **tapping the buttons simultaneously**.&#x20;

Just as above, you can add dynamic fields to your body to better connect with your audience. For our template we can use a body like

> It's great to see you {{**name**}} back onboard. Since you were our **loyal customers**, we offer you a 20% discount on your next purchase.&#x20;

9. **Add footer** option like, type '**STOP**' to if you want to receive no updates.

10. **Add buttons** according to the template needs and aim. The different buttons available are:&#x20;

* **Quick reply**: This button allows you to add predefined options or answers to your message, such as yes/no, agree/disagree, etc.&#x20;
* **Visit website**: This button allows you to add a link to your website or any other web page to your message, such as your homepage, blog, landing page, etc.&#x20;
* **Call phone number**: This button allows you to add a phone number to your message, such as your customer service, sales, or support number.&#x20;
* **Copy offer code**: This button allows you to add a promotional or discount code to your message, such as a coupon, voucher, or gift card code.&#x20;
* **WhatsApp flow**: This button allows you to add a link to a WhatsApp chatbot or flow to your message, such as a survey, quiz, or game.&#x20;

The best button that suits our 'welcome\_back' template need is copy offer code, so we select that.

11. Preview the template on the right hand side for identifying errors.

12. Tap 'Save for later' to add to private collection and submit to sent it for approval.

Say we want to save for later.

13. A popup 'add to private collection' appears. Choose type Industry or application.

Our templates is a Application one hence we select application.

14. Now select a application. The template we're working on is a marketing one so we select marketing.

15. Finally, tap Confirm to publish it to the private collection.

The **submitted template** will be **added to the** [**Active** ](https://docs.makerobos.com/chatman-enterprise-whatsapp-platform/chatman-functions/templates/active)in the Template Tab.

**The template will be saved in its relevant category if you have the admin rights otherwise it will be stored in the Private collection.**&#x20;

A **Private Collection** can hold 50 templates.
